Fruit Machines

Fruit machines (also known as slot machines) fall in to two basic categories: AWPs (Amusement with Prizes), and Club Machines.  As there is such a huge range of fruit machines on the market and our stocks change so frequently, it is not possible for us to publish a stock or price list.  For a copy of our current list, please contact us.

AWPs

AWPs are fruit machines that you find in pubs.  The maximum stake (price per game) is 30 pence and the maximum jackpot is £25.  There are four main manufacturers of AWP: Barcrest, Bell Fruit Games, JPM and Maygay.   Each of these manufacturers builds their own cabinets and uses their own technology.

There is also another group of manufacturers that design games based on other company's cabinets and technology.  These machines are either built new or are made from refurbished machines.  Such companies include: Vivid Games, Red Gaming and Empire Games (who are divisions of Barcrest); Mazooma, QPS and Voodoo Games  (who build on Bell Fruit Technology); Global, Impulse and Extreme (who build on Maygay technology); and ACE who is JPM's sister company.

Most AWPs that we supply are aged between six months and four years old.  As brand new machines can be very expensive (£2,000+), many operators see refurbished machines as a much more viable option.  A newer machine is not necessarily going to take more money than an older one.

Club Machines

Club machines are fruit machines with high jackpots.  In a private members club, the maximum stake/jackpot allowed is 30 pence and £250.  In a bingo hall, the maximum jackpot is £500 and in a casino, it is currently £2,000.  Companies that manufacture AWPs also normally manufacture club machines.  They normally share the same cabinets and technology and from a distance, you may not notice the difference.   Far fewer club machines are on the market than AWPs which means we are selling more and more new and new rebuild machines.  Please contact us for the latest machine list.

Profitability

The profitability of a fruit machine on site is dependent on a number of factors.  These include:

bullet

Stake/Jackpot - Generally, the higher the jackpot, the more attractive the machine will be to the player.

bullet

Game - This is down to the manufacturer.  The more exciting and involving the game is, the more it will be played.

bullet

Position of Site - Where is the site located and what is the player turnaround

bullet

Position of Machine Within Site - This is extremely important - a machine tucked away in a corner won't make as much money.

bullet

Type of Clientele in Site/Culture - More disposable income generally means more plays.  Is there a gambling culture in the site?

bullet

Wet Sales - Stands to reason that the busier the site is, the more potential players.

bullet

Percentage - Sites with a higher player turnaround such as on ferries should have machines set to a lower percentage payout (about 72%) while sites with regular players should be set at higher at about 82%.

Owning/Operating Machines

We are a sales only company.  This means that we do not operate fruit machines or any other machines.  Most of the machines you see on site are not owned by the establishment but are rented.  Companies that rent out machines are known as operators which are our customers.  If you are looking to rent equipment or looking for a reputable operator, please get in touch as we will be able to recommend one local to you.

Licensing/Permits

Laws surrounding the operation of gaming machines are complicated and in order to site machines, you need what's known as a gaming certificate issued by the Gaming Board of Great Britain.  Each machine also requires a permit from the local authority.  Depending on stake and jackpot, some machines also require a license from Customs & Excise.  For more information about the laws surrounding fruit machines, go to the website of the gaming board at http://www.gbgb.org.uk/ .
